Tony Austin
FCA

Tony has been a tax specialist for over 35 years, since qualifying as a Chartered Accountant and was a tax partner for over 20 years with leading firms of accountants before working as an independent consultant, lecturer and writer. Starting with the consultation process for the charity tax review which began in 1997 and led to the Gift Aid reforms in Finance Act 2000, Tony has specialised in advising charities on taxation matters, particularly those relating to tax effective giving and fundraising, including the establishment and running of trading subsidiaries. He has written and lectured on these subjects and, through his work with the Charity Tax Group, has remained heavily involved in the consultation with HMRC leading up to the subsequent taxation reforms for charities, including the definition of charities, changes to Gift Aid and other tax reliefs for donors. Tony also advises businesses, both large and small, on all aspects of direct taxation affecting them and the people that own them. He is involved in tax planning for owner managed businesses, corporate restructuring and employment tax matters, including HMRC enquiries.
