OBJECTIVES

This course aims to provide the essential financial awareness and understanding of financial issues which is needed by executive support staff to contribute in a proactive role. Accounting jargon will be clearly explained.

CONTENT

  • Getting to grips with the terminology – what does the financial jargon actually mean! Terms such as EBIT, gearing, capital expenditure, working capital and others will be clearly explained in context
  • Review of the basic financial statements – profit and loss account, balance sheet, cash flow
  • What non-financial drivers are essential to understand the context in which to assess a company’s performance, numbers on their own are useless!
  • Understanding how three equally important elements are illustrated by the financial statements, profits, cash flow and funding
  • What are the key messages and how do they help with making decisions
  • How good management reporting enables an organisation to achieve its strategic goals

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Staff who need a basic financial literacy – an understanding of accounting and finance, who want to be able to understand financial jargon so they can give more proactive support. No previous financial knowledge will be assumed.
