OBJECTIVES

All businesses hold information about individuals (whether they be employees, customers or anyone else) and that information, that data, is covered by data protection laws under the Data Protection Act.

As of 25th May 2018, the grace period for compliance with the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) expired. The GDPR builds on the existing Data Protection act (still the 8 Data Protection Principles), and introduces some substantial new aspects that businesses need to understand and consider.

As with most legislation, ignorance is not an excuse. The GDPR makes data protection a board room issue. The consequences of non-compliance to the GDPR can be significant – from hefty fines through to prison sentences.

This course is aimed at directors, lawyers, compliance officers, IT managers and other professionals in companies and in public authorities. It provides a practical guide to how data protection works and how the principles must be applied in a variety of contexts, and how to get ready for the GDPR and other new EU developments in data protection.
