Business Risk Management

horizontal rule

COURSE OBJECTIVES: This programme is designed to introduce participants to the principles of risk in a non-mathematical and practical manner. It covers both the identification and management of risk. The concepts of embedded monitors and early warning indicators will be introduced and how they fit into the overall risk management process.

BACKGROUND: The management of business risk has become of great importance due to the impact of regulatory compliance across the world. The London Stock Exchange requires compliance with the principles defined in the Turnbull report whilst American companies must comply with Sarbanes-Oxley. The British Government requires all of its departments to practice risk management and imposes the same requirement on local government, the NHS and housing associations. Even unlisted and not for profit organisations such as charities can benefit from an understanding of risk management. Not all companies will face the same risks, but an understanding of the nature of risk and how risks can be identified and categorised will be useful to any organisation.
