COURSE OBJECTIVES: The course comprehensively covers the taxation principles pertaining to charities. The framework for fundraising as specified by Charity Commissioners and HMRC is explored. VAT as it applies to charities will not be covered. At the end of the course participants will benefit from an understanding of the factors involved in making Giftaid repayment claims and fund-raising within the tax exemptions available to charities.
COURSE CONTENT
Specifically the course will cover the following:
- Giftaid rules; documentation and the problem of benefits
- The taxation exemption for income of charities and the anti-avoidance rules – in particular non-charitable expenditure and the substantial donor rules
- Trading and fund-raising events by charities – the taxation and other principles
- The tax rules as they relate to other fundraising
- HMRC compliance for charities
