COURSE OBJECTIVES: This course aims to provide the essential awareness and understanding of financial issues which is needed by the personal assistant to contribute in a proactive role. Accounting jargon will be clearly explained. Awareness of important developments such as the significance of the change to International Accounting Standards will be covered.

  • Getting to grips with the terminology
  • Review of the basic financial statements - Profit and loss account, balance sheet, cash flow
  • What they tell you about the organisation
  • How they are produced

  • Why they are needed - Legal, accounting standards, taxation
  • How they inter-relate
  • Who uses them and why
  • The internal customer -user departments – their role and the role of the finance function in budgetary planning and control
  • An overview of the significance and impact of the change to International Accounting
  • Standards on the financial statements
  • Corporate governance and audit – an overview
